Multiple Teams · Volleyball Keeps Streak Alive

Did you hear?  The Varsity Pirate Volleyball team is on an eight win run this week following  a win over the Adrian Maples Tuesday night.

The streak began last Thursday and the Pirates swept the Ypsilanti Grizzlies in an SEC showdown.  See related article : Pirates Sweep the Grizzlies

The Pirates then headed to Stockbridge for a weekend tournament, where they topped a tough Maple Valley team to win the Championship!  Kylie Ray (22 Kills on 67 Attempts) and Kate Kerns (31 Kills on 83 Attempts) attacks were too much for any competitor with help from setters Taylor Kennard and Huntley Doyle putting the ball right where it needed to be.  Outstanding performances from Elise Trost (20 Kills on 47 Attempts), Nicole Darin (13 Kills on 31 Attempts), and defense led by Sophia Oakes (50 digs) all  helped propel the Pirates to Victory after victory.

On Tuesday night, the Pirates started a little rough with a 17-25 loss but came back with a vengeance in game two scoring 25-12 over the Maples of Adrian.  They did not slow down for game three, coming out on top 25-11 .  The Maples did not give up and pushed hard, trading leads all throughout the fourth game.  In the end, the Pirate Offense and Defense combo proved too much, dealing the Maples a 25-22 loss.  Kylie Ray registered another 14 kills, Abby Mondro back from a couple of weeks on the DL stormed back with 8 kills, setter Taylor Kennard registered 115 sets and 39 assists, and Madeline Curtis scored with 3 solo blocks.   On the defensive side, Elise Trost and Sophia Oakes both registered double digit digs.

The Freshman and JV teams also registered a 2-1 wins against the Maples!

The Pirates have more SEC action coming up. They head to Dexter next Tuesday and then host Lincoln at home on Thursday.  Keep the momentum rolling ladies!
