Friday night was truly a great high school basketball game and one the kids, both fans and players, will remember for a long time.
The Pirates’ offense was led by three sophomores, Luke Lovell, Sean Packard, and Dylan Reason, as they accounted for 47 of our 57 points on the night. Lovell topped them all with a stellar night scoring 27 points. Joe Bona and Nick Hayes had a great defensive performances against tough Chelsea guards.
The Pirates and Bulldogs kept the score close the entire game with the winning score coming down to the last second. With the clock winding down in the game, Chelsea scored a crushing bucket to take a one point lead. Pinckney in-bounded the ball and called a time out with 4.3 seconds remaining. The Pirates planned to get the ball to Luke Lovell off a double screen but the timing was off and that forced Dylan Reason to drive to the basket. After splitting two defenders, Reason released a long scoop shot. The buzzer sounded and the ball fell through the hoop giving the Pirates a one point victory, 57-56.
